The road to acceptance?

As I lie here and ponder

On the times that we had

There is one thing I can be sure of:

I’m glad you are my dad

As I cross the fields of memories

On a cold March morn

Resting and mending

My heart that has been torn

I remember with sadness

The battle that you fought

To keep your independence

Your home, your special fort

How you struggled at the end

After years of trying to fight

A battle that couldn’t be won

Though you had tried with all your might

But it’s time to look back further

And remember before the pain

The lovely dad I used to know

So I can be happy once again

I hope you are happy now

I hope you are free

I thank you for the memories

For you are the world to me
